The Golden Horn

Book 2 of the 'TOM OWEN' series
(First published 2012)

"OF POACHERS & FISHERMEN"

Rhinos are being slaughtered for their horns, elephants for their tusks, diamonds are being stolen, a woman is raped, another kidnapped and a man is killed. Who is responsible for all this poaching and violence?

Tom Owen and his family, after being thrown off their farm in Zimbabwe, decide to start a deep-sea fishing charter business in Mozambique. Somehow they are accidentally caught up in 'dirty diamond' dealing and elephant and rhino poaching when they cross paths with a ruthless individual, Jan Van Zyl who has connections in high places and will stop at nothing to prevent interference in his illegal businesses. What can the family do to stop the man - and at what cost?

THE GOLDEN HORN is a fast moving, action packed story in which the hunter becomes the hunted. The reader will experience the ‘feel’ of Africa, the horror of Rhino and Elephant poaching, the excitement of the chase, the thrill of big-game fishing as the story unfolds.

REVIEWS

Ken Tilbury's new book, The Golden Horn, apart from being a 'must read' carries a message we should all be aware of: the wildlife in Africa, especially those species whose body products have a real or perceived value are not only under threat but are in real danger of extinction. Unscrupulous dealers are more than willing to take the risks involved in procuring ivory, rhino horn or big cat parts for the vanity market or for their supposed but utterly unsubstantiated medicinal properties. They have a ready market in the Far East and in Asia in general where they can dispose of, say, rhino horn, at astronomical rates. Ken feels so strongly about this illicit trade that he provides a portion of the royalties from the sale of this book to the charity, 'Save the Rhino.'

The story itself is fast moving and exciting throughout, a book that's hard to put down and in buying it you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you'll be doing something to help a very worthy cause as well as enjoying a well written story that owes quite a bit more to personal experience than one might imagine. You will not be disappointed. Bruce Brislin. UK. author of 'Paw-Paws and Pith Helmets'

The poaching of Rhino for their horn, is becoming endemic in Southern Africa due to the demand by people from the East. Rhinos are fast becoming extinct. In Golden Horn, this problem is brought to light, in a fast moving story about poachers and those that protect the animals. By land, sea and air the battle goes on. Golden Horn should be read by all who have an interest in protecting our Rhino. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers looking for a fast-moving and exciting story. Phil Graham.  author of 'Dare to Flee'.

Ken Tilbury has penned an exciting tale, spotlighting the cruel slaughter of rhinos and elephants in today's Africa. The story follows a family, evicted from their Zimbabwe farm, who find themselves and their friends pitted against a devious and malicious character -- the mastermind of multiple international criminal enterprises, to include wildlife poaching, diamond smuggling, kidnapping, rape torture and human trafficking. The action is fast-paced and the book is hard to put it down. Reviewed by Diana M Hawkins, author of 'Shadows along the Zambezi'

If you've already read Black Mamba White Settler then this sequel of the `Tom Owen' series is a must. My review mirror's the reviews that went before me so I won't repeat what has already been said, other than to emphasise the author's knowledge and love of Africa's wildlife and its habitat - it is brilliant. You will hear the leaves rustle, smell the earth as the dust rises; you will stand in awe in front of a magnificent Kudu and you will feel the tension, the fear of a wounded animal. His proverbial pen captures every detail as would an artist's brush, a fine painting. Whether in hot pursuit of adversaries, spying on illicit diamond dealers, tracking illegal rhino poachers or intercepting ivory traders, each page is captivating. From the wilds of Africa to remote Indian Ocean islands, the suspense will sweep you away into the wee hours as you read with baited breath. I can't wait to find out what happens next in the `Tom Owen' series. Greer Noble - author of 'Checkmate' and 'Veiled Madness'.
